Basemap style customization
This is not a standard Google Maps basemap. It uses a custom, game-styled world map:

• A textured earth look with simplified political boundaries.
• A purpose built, readability first styling is done so that the overlays such as (infection, deaths, routes, markers) dominate visual hierarchy.

• Flow map - To indicate the direction of the plague’s spread through airways or waterways
• Dots - Displays infected data on top of the map in the form of dots. Higher number of dots indicates a higher number of infected people

Strava is a fitness tracking platform used by runners and cyclists. One of its most distinctive features is the Global Heatmap, which visualizes aggregated GPS activity data from millions of users across the world.
Instead of showing destinations or routes to follow, the map shows where people actually move.

Problem

• Movement data is difficult to interpret at scale. Lists, charts, or tables fail to communicate:
• Which routes are actually used
• How cities are experienced by runners and cyclists

Radio Garden is an interactive map-based platform that lets users explore and listen to live radio stations from around the world by simply rotating and clicking on a 3D globe

It solves the problem of discovering and accessing global radio content that would otherwise be geographically restricted or hard to find and also an immersive way to experience local cultures.

The Interface: The site uses a 3D digital globe with a borderless satellite basemap dotted with thousands of green pixels. Each dot represents a town or city with active radio stations.

Tuning In: As you spin the globe and align the circle over a green dot, the app automatically streams live audio from that location.

It uses a custom dark mode styled aesthetic designed to make the green radio dots pop. By default, the map has very few labels (no street names or any icons). This keeps the focus on the geography and the radio signals.
