Clarification: personal local retention and non-commercial backtesting of OpenAPI market data #1171

Description

@etxrevenge

Hello Longbridge team,

Customer support directed me to GitHub for clarification about permitted use of OpenAPI market data.

I am building a single-user, local-only, non-commercial research tool. It is read-only: it does not submit, modify, cancel, or confirm live or paper orders. No data, derived dataset, dashboard, or research output will be redistributed, publicly displayed, sold, sublicensed, or made available to other users.

Could you please clarify the applicable terms and whether the following uses are permitted for a personal account, subject to the user's own market-data entitlements?

  1. Retaining data returned by the OpenAPI on the user's own Mac, including unadjusted OHLCV, static security data, corporate actions, and FX data.
  2. Transforming permitted data into private CSV/Parquet files and calculated indicators.
  3. Using the retained data for private, non-commercial historical analysis and backtesting.
  4. Keeping immutable input versions, hashes, simulated trades, and audit logs so a backtest can be reproduced.
  5. Retaining those local copies after a session ends, and, if applicable, after an entitlement or account relationship ends.

Please also clarify:

  • Which markets, exchanges, data products, or fields are excluded from the permissions above.
  • Any maximum retention period or required deletion rule.
  • Required attribution, caching limits, or other conditions.
  • Whether a separate license is required even when the data is used only locally and is never redistributed.
  • Which current agreement, policy, or documentation governs these rights.

I understand that the SDK/software license is separate from market-data and exchange rights, and that exchange/vendor restrictions may override general API availability. A response that distinguishes permitted, prohibited, and requires a separate license would be especially helpful.

Thank you.
