The APS has developed thousands of screens for MEDM to control and display information from beam lines. The suite of screens has much content coded into their design, just as a graphical user interface. The APS sees great value in providing a translator into PyDM's screen format to retain their investment in the screens' design. Translations from the MEDM screen file format (.adl) exist for other GUIs (such as EDM, CSS BOY, and caQtDM) but not yet for PyDM.
A translator for PyDM (adl2pydm) is in development now.
