The name in the timestamp, shown below the message, would have a contrasting text outline, similar to how text is often displayed in meme formats.
Rationale
Useful in cases of custom wallpapers. The default appearance of various light/colorful colors is hard to read atop a colorful background.
Weirdly enough, I don't remember this being a problem before 2.7.2, so I'm guessing its appearance was slightly changed or otherwise affected by moving it from above the message content to below.
