I ran in to this as well, and I spent quite a time checking several things regarding this. From what I saw, passlib was being used in exactly one place only, for hashing the password. Since passlib is not really actively maintained (maybe 5y or so since the last update), does it really have to be passlib for this single use case? what about switching that out to something like bcrypt.hashpw(password, bcrypt.gensalt())? I will be happy to create a PR if that works.

If swapping out passlib is not a choice, I suggest locking bcrypt version to a compatible one (last compatible one with __about__ was 4.0.1 iirc) as well, seeing this every time when you run something is not fun :(
