Managing hidden files

need to manage hidden files that start with a ".", this will solve issues with git/nano

Note that:

• . is the current directory
• ./xyz is a directory within the current directory
• .. is the directory above the current directory, or the current directory if you are already at root
• .file is a hidden file
• .file.txt is a file
