Random windows placemant after reboot

First - Thank you! i was looking (and even started to write my own script) to have some solution to save my sessions :).

i have small issue after reboot my programs are completely in random

The positioning is ultimately determined by Hyprland when in tilling mode so this is a tricky problem to solve. I currently just execute the programs in the order that they appear in the listing received from Hyprland (using an equivalent to the hyprctl clients command) so changing that they execute in the right order may help but the 'right order' will depend on the layout. Another problem is that just because a program is executed first doesn't mean it will create it's window first.

To be honest I created this as a quick and dirty way to reload my last session. As long as they're on the right workspace and monitor (which currently doesn't always happen either) I'm happy. The next iteration of Hyprsession will monitor the session for a period of time and will try to move windows to the correct location after they are created. So I will see if I can at least go some way to fix your problem as well.

I thought about writing my own system after I first tried Hyprsession and things came back really mangled, but after reading your reply here, I am unsure if this is even solvable with Hyprland in its current state.

@joshurtree any thoughts on how this can extended to try to position the windows into their correct positions?
I see hyprctl clients does give decent positioning information, but I am unsure if Hyprland offers any form of API to force position of said windows in any way. It seems somewhat useless to provide "at" and "size" information if that information can't be directly reapplied.

I am working on something that will run an event listener for a time after startup that will look at when windows are created or title is changed. It will then assign a best guess of their location based on the meta data. This is mainly to deal with programs that create multiple windows or have a popup. So the first release will be just dealing with that. It could possibly be extended with an algorithm that detects when all windows are loaded then use some combination of the movewindow, swapwindow and togglesplit dispatchers to get their position right.

Ultimately Hyprsession should be replaced with an implementation of the Wayland session protocol but that would have to be done at the compositor level (possibly with a plugin).

It's been months since I last used hyprland and I just started reusing it.

I had an implementation on my local fork that calls hyprland's pause on dynamic tiling then this script will be called on start after the setting of the workspaces, and then places all windows where they were.

I am planning on fetching your updates and merging my script so I can make a pull request but I kinda want to see what you have in mind too!

Yeah this bug is probably the only flaw in this project. Has anyone managed a workaround yet?
