I was wondering if modifying the case, e.g., It's a shame -> it is a shame, is a bug or a feature?

This is more of a fact that the expansions are done as a case insensitive regex replace. It would be possible to maintain the case by doing an isupper() call on the first char of the match followed by an upper() call on the first char of the replacement if the original form started with an uppercase.

Thanks Ian. I can certainly do that. In the spirit of your library supporting non-destructive text processing, wouldn't it make sense to do this in pycontractions though? I could submit a pull request if that would help. Just a thought.
