  4. Pressing Counter-Productivity Ratio (PCR): # of times the press forced a long ball that led to opponent winning second ball in dangerous areas / # of total pressures in the pressing phase — captures how pressing itself can create transition opportunities for the opponent.

The "Half-Space Ambush" — What Broke the Stalemate

The second-half transformation was the most fascinating part: after Saka and Eze replaced Madueke and Merino, Arsenal shifted from high press to mid-block with deliberate vertical ambition.   2. Low-block detection: Can we build a "Guardiola low-block detector" that flags matches where opponent_possession > 60% AND shots_on_target < 2 AND goals_conceded = 1 — a signature of ultra-low-block defensive football?

  3. Transition detection from event data: What's the methodology for detecting counter-attacking transitions from event data alone (no tracking)? Specifically, how do we identify the "3v2 in the box" pattern that led to City's goals?

  4. Cross-match comparison: I noticed the same pressing/transitional dynamics in this match and the April 2026 Etihad return (where City had 61% possession). Could a comparative analysis using the same metrics create a robust "pressing effectiveness framework"?
