Download Progress?

Can this plugin be hooked up to a status bar to show the download progress for larger files?

Yes, but I think that is something you would have to implement manually. I remember seeing something recently that mentioned use of the network activity icon in the status bar but can't find where I saw it. For something more advanced, I'd look at integrating ASIHTTPRequest for iOS (idk what the android equivalent would be) as a phonegap plugin which has much much more functionality.
