After running cmake from the build dir and cd'ing back to the main dir and running make I get a weird error very early.

Qml debugging is enabled. Only use this in a safe environment!
Usage: qmlviewer [options]
It then shows the usage instructions for qmlviewer and promptly exits the build process. Help.
