The tests could run code similar to the demos, then compare the output with checked in references.
But I don't expect that there will be much dev work once it's release, as it's a wrapper around cairo. Thus manual testing will be done anyway, and automatic tests are just resources that need to be managed then also.
They should be there as in every serious project, but I don't knwo when I'll add these.
