SPOTs are less and less common (the people I know with SPOTs have all changed to Inreach). In 2021 the latest version of the SPOT (very fancy) was used by 2 international pilots (so possibly more common outside the US), and they do indeed have a new message format that Bowerbird doesn't parse properly.
Whether they should be directly supported, or just tolerated (and require the Coordinator to read the messages directly) is a very valid question
