What is the point of the active sessions table?

It's cool and I like that you wrote the functionality to insert and delete from the table whenever a user logs in or logs in again, but why are you storing that info? Were you going to use it anywhere? Why do you need that in addition to the cookie?

When a user comes to us with a cookie, we check the session_id of the cookie matches a session_id in the active_sessions table -- otherwise how do we know that they're a real user?
