Why is this deprecated?

I received this extension suggestion in the vscode.email newsletter, but as I went to install it and try it it says it's deprecated.

It has been a very popular extension. There have been 11 downloads in 3 months. I am not going to spend any effort supporting something no one is using.

I am very surprised it was promoted by anyone. I have a suspicion that email is bogus. It brags about having 2,000 subscribers.

I think this project is a nice idea nonetheless

I liked the idea also. It was fun to try. But I never ended up using it day-to-day. It didn't solve an existing need. One time I was putting comments into a json file the hard way and I came up with my second extension, Json Commenter. It does solve a need but that need isn't often. I've used it twice but it does come in handy.. I'm nearing the end of development of an extension that I'm excited about. I'm using an early version and I can't live without it.
