Flatpak version has different prompt in terminal pane than in Terminal app

What Happened?

In the Terminal app (and the native Code app) the prompt is taken from the system environment variable PS1 defined in etc/skel/.bashrc possible modified in ~/.bashrc. However in the FlatPak app this variable defaults to $FLATPAK_ID \W]\$ which is less helpful.

Steps to Reproduce

Run Flatpak Code and look at terminal pane

Expected Behavior

The prompt shown should match that set by the user in their .bashrc file.

A partial workround for this is to run the Flatpak with export PS1=$PS1; flatpak run io.elementary.code . This produces the correct prompt but because the colors do not follow Terminal settings it is not very readable. To avoid this replace $PS1 with an explicit string with different or no colors e.g export PS1='${debian_chroot:+($debian_chroot)}\u@\h:\w\$ '
