Unfortunately, no DotNet artifacts (project configurations, etc.) are recognized by aCute and the JDK runtime is included in this project (which is done by eclipse). The project is not recognized as a DotNet project.

There is no special "DotNet project" from aCute/Eclipse perspective; at least there are no special markers/icons/... for them, they're just regular project and aCute infers the necessary .NET info from the metadata files.

I can open the cs files (in generic editor), however, code assistance does not work and "Run As >" does also not work. I get the following error:

I am using Eclipse 2025-06.

The other issue is that the dotnet project has a reference to theJRE System Library - Eclipse does not know that this is NOT a java project. Would be nice to include the dotnet System Library (as a reference) instead.

That is probably the root cause of all trouble.
I read OmniShapr while it should be OmniSharp. Can you please verify it's really what the log tells? If so, I don't get where this is coming from. The code doesn't have such typo in it as far as I can see, so it can be some configuration error...

I'm aware mac can have some particular process to allow running children processes. But that's all I know about it; I won't be able to help further if we're in one of those cases.

There is an executable called run within the directory /Users/test/ide/.metadata/.plugins/org.eclipse.acute/omnisharp-roslyn/.

I tried to run it by ./run from the terminal (and also did a chmod +x run to make it executable on the mac). However, I get the following error:

./run: line 19: mono: command not found

I think, one problem is that within the /Users/test/ide/.metadata/.plugins/org.eclipse.acute/omnisharp-roslyn/omnisharp there is a file called OmniSharp.exe (and a lot of dll's). But on Mac OS, exe-files cannot be executed. So it seems that this plugin only works on Windows and not on Mac OS or Linux.

.NET based .exe can be executed with dotnetcore or mono; that's what the run script is trying to find. It looks like at the moment, mono is required in order to run OmniSharp according to https://github.com/OmniSharp/omnisharp-roslyn?tab=readme-ov-file#introduction ; so please first make mono available on your system.

Ok, I installed mono on Mac. Now, the run command works but shows the following error:

According to https://stackoverflow.com/questions/71622214/could-not-locate-msbuild-instance-to-register-with-omnisharp, there should be a solution to use

omnisharp.useModernNet": true

However, the solution is only for VSCode and not for Eclipse aCute. Perhaps Eclipse aCute should define this setting automatically?

Using VSCode with Omnisharp on Mac OS works perfectly without requiring Mono! Therefore, it would be good to improve aCute so that Mono is no longer required on non-Windows machines as well. In fact, Mono is no longer required with the newer .NET SDK so I don't understand why aCute needs it..maybe because it uses internally an old version of omnisharp?

Note that the problem you see only exist on mac. On Linux, everything is fine (CI tests are actually running, and succeeding, on Linux for each commit).
I am not aware of someone monitoring aCute development and who's using a mac. There is no doubt things could be better on Mac but there is currently no-one likely to work on it. If you can try debugging aCute, or just reading about OmniSharp on mac and make recommendations for how to make aCute better, that would be welcome.
