Various deep learning packages install issues

A few installer issues found on Ubuntu 14.04.4 LTS (Vagrant/VirtualBox/Mint 17.1).
- Fixed a few install script issues in multiple places.
- Created a pull request #22 with first pass fixes.  Still work in progress.  Will update if/when making further progress.
