The file applied_statistics.rds shows up with version control status when you do a build. Should this file be git ignored?

In short, it can be ignored.

Per rstudio/bookdown#430

It is used to store some intermediate metadata (mainly HTML dependencies of HTML widgets).

I'm not sure there are HTML widgets in the text though. Though, this is able to be placed underneath _book, which is already blocked from the master.

@rayfix any interest in submitting a PR to bookdown to move the .rds to _book?

@coatless Haha ... I just read the linked issue. Yes, I will look into that but probably be a little longer term. :)
