Provider - Cloudflare

While there exists a cloudflare provider repo today, it is 5 years out of date, and (I assume) not compatible with v2. Would like to contribute to a provider-upjet-cloudflare repository and have done the initial work to generate it https://github.com/erikmiller-gusto/provider-upjet-cloudflare

Thank you for taking the initiative on this provider @erikmiller-gusto!

I know there has been interest in the classic provider-cloudflare as shown in crossplane-contrib/provider-cloudflare#13, but I think that mostly speaks for the demand of a Cloudflare provider period, not necessarily that specific classic one.

I think an upjet based provider is the better way forward which will make increasing and maintaining the API surface area much more achievable. So, I'm inclined to go ahead and archive the old provider and take this donation of a new upjet provider going forward.

Can you please make a statement on the "maintainer team's long term commitment to the extension" of this provider @erikmiller-gusto as described in the governance, as well as any other potential initial maintainers? I want to avoid a situation where we move forward with this new upjet provider but then have it fall into an unmaintained state soon after.

We are committed to creating a new repository named provider-upjet-cloudflare, which will serve as a Crossplane provider for Cloudflare. This provider will be auto-generated based on terraform-provider-cloudflare. We will invite other community members to contribute based on their expertise with building their own Crossplane Providers.

Has the been any traction or appetite to pick this back up as a supported provider?

I've been looking into adopting Crossplane at our organisation as a Kubernetes native replacement of Terraform. The intention is to start building the foundation of an IDP although the lack of Cloudflare support is a critical limitation. The suggested replacement provider repository also appears to be unmaintained similar to the historical community repository. The official Terraform provider has had frequent changes coming in since initial code generation so without any active maintainer or automation process it's going to become outdated fairly rapidly.

Wanted to look for community solutions rather than go off an independent journey on maintaining our own.

@erikmiller-gusto the repo you have initialized doesn't have any issues and metadata we'd need to preserve, so pushing the git history to a new repo we create under crossplane-contrib seems reasonable to me.

thanks for setting this up and for providing us with access @jbw976.
for those that are interested, i've created a slack channel on upbound's slack called #provider-cloudflare if you're interested in joining. @erikmiller-gusto maybe that would be a good way to sync up, if you want. I will try, in the future, to join the community meetings when possible as well.
