startx only brings up black screen with cursor

I have been having an issue with using the startx command as every time i use it it just ends up with a black screen and a movable cursor, i followed the steps on the linked yt video up until you ran startx. Any help would be much appreciated!

That's the expected outcome, you have to configure your system. Do you have alacrity installed?
