Improve rendering of "check in notice"

I'd like the notice text not to move all of the elements down when it appears.

I'd like to have it do something like this:

• user selects a team from dropdown
• the text notice appears, with the background immediately as red, fading quickly to transparent, with red text as you have now.
• user clicks check in
• notice text fades out to transparent.
