This feature overlaps significantly with existing open work:

That issue proposes adding SkillsDirectoryProvider to the MCP server so BM skills are exposed as skill:// resources and loadable via CLI.

What Already Exists

• write_note already accepts a note_type parameter (default: "note") — writing a note with type: skill in frontmatter would work today with no code changes
• BM already uses FastMCP (src/basic_memory/mcp/server.py) and has a resources module (src/basic_memory/mcp/resources/) with @mcp.resource() decorator support
• Skills exist as static SKILL.md files under skills/memory-*/ and plugins/claude-code/skills/

Proposed Scope (for tracking)

This feature has two sub-problems:

1. BM as skill storage — Use notes with type: skill frontmatter as the authoritative skill store. Skills become searchable, linkable, and versionable via the knowledge graph. This differs from static SKILL.md files because skills can cross-reference entities, have observations, and participate in the graph.

2. fastmcp packaging + CLI install — Expose skill notes as skill:// MCP resources via SkillsDirectoryProvider, and add a basic-memory skill install (or similar) CLI command to pull them into an agent's skill directory. See fastmcp skills docs.

Recommend linking this to #682 and #866 and tracking together. The type: skill note idea is the novel contribution here.
