About loading firmware on stock Tufty

Will this firmware work on the standard Pimoroni Tufty 2350 found on the Pimoroni website? I was planning on getting one and wanted to know.

Not sure - there where some electrical differences planned from the original stock plans from Pimoroni. I've ordered myself one now and will let you know.

I went through this exact exercise — I have both the GitHub Hackable Badge and a retail Pimoroni Tufty 2350. My first instinct was the same as yours: just flash one's OS onto the other. It doesn't work — confirming what's already been called out here, the button GPIOs (and a couple of electrical bits) don't line up, so the inputs come out mismatched.

The differences I hit:

So a badge build runs on a Tufty but the buttons read shifted, and vice-versa. Once I corrected the pin map it was spot on.

Rather than just port it, I built a revised version of the OS that fully supports the retail Tufty hardware — corrected pins, PSRAM enabled (~7.8 MB free heap vs ~290 KB), 250 MHz. It's also an upgrade and keeps all the apps. One note: since the retail Tufty has no IR receiver, Mona's Quest (which unlocks the conference zones via the badge's IR beacon) isn't usable there — I drop it on the Tufty build (Mona Noir replaces it anyway).
