Shutdown and update do not clear window on Zic Pixel but overwrite it with "Bye" and "Update" respectively.

Am i wrong in thinking you simply need to call clear screen before calling shutdown or update functions. I can’t find the calls in the source. There is a bit too much ;-)

I can’t compile the source code on a Mac (there is no alsa lib for mac asfaik)

Even if you clear the screen, it will unfortunately still be on, so it would make no difference. This is why I am asking if you have the resistor on the pcb to switch off the display when you shutdown the RPi.

I think you have issue on your reply, maybe go directly on github to answer because I am still not able to know if you have a resistor or not on your PCB to switch off the screen.

The resistor is present, but I think you should simply call a clear screen prior to calling shutdown or update. It works fine on the pixel (i both have two XYs and a Pixel running right now).
I can’t compile myself as I am on a Mac, with no alsa lib.

I could clear the screen, just before to call shutdown, but then it get few second before Rpi shutdown, so the screen would be black but still with the backlight ON for few second, which is not ideal.
Instead of this, I prefer to put a message "Bye", so people know that it is shutting down and once the RPi finish to fully shutdown, the backlight switch off and everything is off.

I am not so sure to understand where is the problem. Could you explain better what is the bug, give more details and explain the workflow issue. I might have missed something.

I had several issue in the past with the clear screen, switching from one way to the other (there was some performance drop due to the clear screen) and maybe with fixing the performance issue, i might introduced this one.

I will have a look one day (when I am less busy). However, what is strange is that it work on XY, in the end both hardware are pretty much the same, just with different form factor. So maybe i would just have to re-compile the Pixel firmware and issue will be fix.
