[MSHARED-475] Not able to compile a module named as "RCS" and "SCCS"

I am using Maven as build tool for building our banking application. There is one module which named as "RCS" which is not getting compiled because of one strange restriction forced by maven. All other modules are getting complied.

When i searched the reason on google, i found that maven does not allow users to name module/package RCS/GIT/SVN/SCCS.

My RCS name is a financial term and its not possible to change the module name as it has multiple dependencies.

How we can remove this restriction or what is the possible solution. Please help me in this.

Are we talking about a module of a multi module build ? Apart from that i would be interested where you have found the information about naming the modules is not allowed...I have tested that https://github.com/khmarbaise/javaee/tree/module-rcs on this branch i have named a module RCS which works simply...May be you can give more detailed informations and what exactly not work ...and it would be helpful having a log file...

Hi Karl

Yes its a multi module build.. We have 17 modules out of which 16 are getting built properly. Only one module with the name RCS is not getting built. It contains 50 java files but none of the files are getting compiled, in the log it is saying "Nothing to compile - all classes are up to date".
The java files are present in the path src/main/java/RCS/, here if the module name is changed as something like RCP or RCM then all the files are getting compiled successfully.

I'm quite sure this is because "RCS" and "SCCS" appear on the default excludes list for the maven-shared/plexus directory scanner, as can be seen at https://github.com/apache/maven-shared/blob/trunk/maven-shared-utils/src/main/java/org/apache/maven/shared/utils/io/DirectoryScanner.java#L126. Someone, somewhere needs to disable default excludes :)

Given a small problem that reproduces the problem it should not be too hard to find

It may be safe now to remove RCS and SCCS from default excludes. They should be dead by now.
