Can you be a bit more specific? Elements in cryptography can generally be thought of as numbers mod a prime (if dealing with prime fields), or in the case of binary fields, polynomials mod an irreducible polynomial. If by polynomial, you mean e.g., y^2 = x^3 + 64379x + 22921 (mod 71933), that's just the form of an elliptic curve.
