It does not reduce mod file sizes, just the raw picture file size on your PC

Yeah i know but there are better ways especially if you work with versions and constantly update your mods and the easiest is probably cropping your textures to the templates. I know this sounds silly but if you download random mods and check out the textures on it almost nobody does that.
