When my kerbals leave the Packrat's seats (they're mounted on the two side points rather than one center), they get ejected about 40-50 meters into the sky (on Minmus, so it'd be negligible on Kerbin), about 2-3 m/s. I suspect it's a conflict with the extra "awning" of collider over their heads.
