Stops working and hangs with "Initial sync: Importing account..."

Describe the bug
SchildiChat worked well for several years; but a few days ago it suddenly only showed "Initial sync: Importing account...", and nothing happens. The UI is unaccessible, since the "Initial sync"-dialog blocks everything and cannot be aborted.

So, chats cannot be accessed, and switching to an other client, keeping the history, is also impossible.

Clearing the app-cache does not help.

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

1. Use SchildiChat normally.
2. Suddenly, the above behavior appears.

Additional context

• App version: 1.6.52.sc91
• Store: F-Droid
• Homeserver: matrix.org
• Logs have been submitted using the app's built-in bug report (/"rageshake") mechanism: no, since the UI is not accessible.
