My aternos.me server was broken after server validation appeared:
- This has been fixed in the current version. Existing monitored servers should be updated automatically
My server status shows Error, Invalid IP address:
- This only applies to the centrally hosted version of the bot.
- The March 2025 server update aligned the bot with RFC1918 standards, and our service provider requirements. This means that the bot is no longer able to monitor any IP addresses that are in the local space (192.168, 127.0.0, 10.0 etc). Additionally the bot cannot monitor IP addresses that have not been assigned by IANA (often known as bogon IPs).
- We recommend you use a free proxy such as Minekube or Playit to make your server securely accessible via a domain, and then monitor that domain.
- If you run a self hosted version of the bot, you can use the environment variable
ALLOW_PRIVATE_IPS=true to allow monitoring of private servers. Please use this carefully, since some cloud providers may ban you for trying to access private addresses.
- If you believe that your IP address is still valid, and is not a local address (it is publicly accessible), please open an issue here on github, and we will investigate further.
I am not able to monitor servers with _ in the domain name:
- This issue was resolved with the Fall 2025 update. Please open an issue if you notice any errors related to underscores.
When I use a command, the application does not respond (error appears):
- This should now be fixed. If you are still facing this issue, please open an issue here on github.
- Check that your bot has the appropriate role assigned:
Minecraft Server Status. If this role is not assigned, then reassign the bot to that role so it has the appropriate permissions.
- If you have deleted or modified the role, you will need to remove your bot from your server (delete the
Minecraft Server Status role if it exists) and then re-invite the bot to the server. It is recommended that you unmonitor all servers before doing this as they will be unlinked from our database and will not be updated when the bot is re-invited to the server.
Changing nickname/monitoring server takes a long time:
- This should be fixed in the October 2023 update. It should now take no more than 7 seconds. If monitoring is still taking a long time, please verify that your server address is correct and the server is publicly accessible, or open an issue here on github.
My MOTD says 'None' in status command response:
- If your server has no MOTD, or the MOTD could not be cleaned by our server, then it will show up as 'None' in the status command response.
My servers do not seem to be updating:
- Our bot updates the servers every 6 minutes. This is a limitation of discord. If your server has not been updated after 6 minutes, please read the "I host a server on my computer" section below, or open an issue here on github and give us the server address you were trying to monitor.
My server seems to always stay offline / the status does not update:
- Where is your server hosted? If it is hosted at home, on your computer, see the "I host a server on my computer" section below.
- If your server is not hosted at home, what platform is it? By default our bot assumes you have monitored a java server. If you are running a bedrock server, please append the server type flag when you monitor the server or use the status command. If your server is already monitored, you will need to unmonitor and remonitor the server.
I host a server on my computer (or in my house) and I want to monitor it with the bot but it always says offline:
- If you have a server hosted at home, this is a private server and is locked behind your router. Our bot will not be able to access your server unless it is a public server (accessible by any computer on the internet).
- You have two options here:
- Use an ingress adaptor such as Minekube to get a domain for your server without opening ports, then monitor that domain.
- Expose your local server to the internet, and port forward the appropriate port (usually 25565) from your router. Then monitor your public IP address. Note, exposing ports in this manner may compromise your home network's security. Proceed at your own risk.
I cannot see the player list for my servers anymore:
- This feature was removed in a recent update but is being worked on and will be reintroduced soon.
Is there a limit to how many servers I can monitor?:
Are there any servers I cannot monitor?
- No. The only requirement is that you have accepted the EULA in your Minecraft server.
Hopefully this answers some of your questions. We will update this FAQ as our bot gets updated / we get more questions. If your question has not been answered here, please open a github issue and we will try and help you as soon as we can. Please bear in mind that we are 2 college students who run this in our free time. Our responses may not be swift and we appreciate your patience. Thank you for your support so far!
