Rate function that will test only the different configurations possible, not all of them

Would it be possible to modify the code, in order to be able to define a rate function, where it compute the rate only for the different species configurations possible, and not theoretically all of them (because some will never occur) ?

Hi Alex,

As long as I am not making a mistake, your feature is already supported:

See this example below:

A, B, Mortal = BaseSpecies()

  A.a1, A.a2, B.b1, B.b2
  Test = A*B*Mortal

  C = New(Mortal)

  def only_some_species(x):
      if x.a1 and x.b1:
          return 10
      else:
          return 0

  def only_for_test(x):
      if x.is_a(A):
          return 10
      else:
          return 0

  Test >> 2*Test [only_some_species]
  Mortal >> Zero [only_for_test]

  S = Simulation(Test | C)
  print(S.compile())

In the Test >> 2*Test meta-reaction, only the Test.a1.b1 species receives a non-zero rate. All other get rate 0 and the respective zero rate reactions are not defined.

In the Mortal >> Zero meta-reaction, only Test inherits from A, so only Test species get the rate applied (C doesn't). The C reaction is also not defined here.

You can combine multiple conditions in your rate functions or chain logical statements as needed. Is this what you were looking for, or did you have something else in mind?

Alex, also, seeing your previous issue I realize you might want to exclude things instead of adding. If that is the case, just use the not keyword. Example:

def only_some_species(x):
    if not x.a1 and not x.b1:
        return 10
    else:
        return 0

The x.a1 returns a boolean (True or False), so you can use this to manipulate the rates you want
