[Buildings] missing data in El Cajon

While spot-checking, I found missing buildings in Overture that are in OSM. Here's an example in El Cajon, CA-US.

It's a strange E/W partially incomplete gap between approximately 32.697N and 32.806N.

Here's how to visualize/verify. overturemaps download --bbox -117.1,32.78,-116.9,32.82 -f geojson -t building -o el-cajon-missing.geojson

Thanks for the feedback, Curtis Doty (@dotysan) — however, I don't see buildings in OSM there, either. I think that your basemap is using more than OSM buildings:

You'll see, actually, a number of the buildings from Overture are from the Microsoft ML buildings dataset: https://rapideditor.org/edit#map=16.38/32.80026/-116.99072&background=EsriWayback_2024-12-12&datasets=msBuildings

Regardless, looks like this region needs some more mapping!

If I'm not mistaken that looks like the Esri topographic basemap style. If you're using our OpenStreetMap basemap then it does include the Microsoft ML buildings that Jennings Anderson (@jenningsanderson) referred to. If you're using our standard Esri topographic basemap then it uses commercial data which will have different coverage compared to OSM or Overture.

Good catch! I've updated title.

I was indeed using ESRI's World Topographic basemap for comparison. https://www.arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=7dc6cea0b1764a1f9af2e679f642f0f5

And wrongly assumed they were OSM buildings due to the credits mentioning OSM.

Indeed most polygons are from Microsoft in that area. MS=green OSM=orange

It appears the MS data has the arbitrary gap. As OSM has a few buldings inside that gap.
