Polkit popup appears after adjusting brightness in xfce

It seems an update of the last few days made it that after I adjust brightness on my Thinkpad with Fn-Home/End (brightness adjustment works), a policykit popup appears prompting for my password.

It says:

Authentication is needed to run `/nix/store/4psml7gxvbvdbm709f8ncvd7l9z6203-xfce-power-manager-1.4.4/sbin/xfpm-power-backlight-helper' as the super user

I'm using i3 with xfce.

Expected behavior
No popup.

The big update on 19.09 today seems to have fixed it (or my reboot for it fixed it for other unknown reasons).

Any idea what could have fixed it?

A reboot will fix this issue, but it shouldn't happen in the first place.
I've looked at share/polkit-1/actions/org.xfce.power.policy and it's the same issue we had with g-s-d.

This also happens for me when I have auto dimming enabled after x minutes of idle. Is there a known work around?
