Something which would be a cool feature for v2 would be the opening of arbitrary volumes as registration targets. You wouldn't necessarily need to open an annotation. Some use cases I can think of are
- aligning sections to an MRI of the same animal
- aligning 2d atlas sections to a new template as part of the construction of an atlas
I also think giving users this flexibility would allow them to use the atlas in ways we hadn't thought of :)
I suppose if we allow for the importing of brainglobe atlases Im sure people will be able to figure out how to get their own custom data in through some workaround.
