An extra feature that would be great for reusable modules is being able to save these schematics as a block which can be placed. For example, for my tree idea, you could have a special stump item that admins can place down, then when starting the game it turns into the regenerating tree.
Describe the solution you'd like
A block/item with special nbt which when placed allows for placing a block/entity which spawns an area when spawned as a schematic.
This is because if you are designing a level, you would want to define where trees would spawn in the level, but you wouldn't want to manually have to place a schematic down where every tree needs to be, especially if you need to move one, that'd be a hassle.
Being able to place down a block which can be manipulated as such, then when you save the level and load it as a schematic it places down your schematic.
This functions basically identically to the jigsaw block of vanilla, it places a schematic down when the parent schematic is placed, and is useful for the same reasons.
Describe alternatives you've considered
Modifying the existing jigsaw block could be possible but could lead to mod incompatibilities
