Debian Chroot: sudo killed, su killed

Just like the title says. For details, I did the automatic debian chroot install, I had to change the permissions on tmp with chmod 777 $PREFIX/tmp, and then Debian launched into X11, however, I can't open the browser and more importantly, I can't use su or sudo, they get "killed" instantly

this is fascinating, I've never encountered any issues like this before even though i am using a janky root setup, i gotta look into it more after i get enough time. If you have issues with the browser you may reinstall it. If not installed already you may use apt install chromium as the root user for chromium or you may read mozilla's documentation on how to install firefox with apt.

I have rooted with Magisk on the Samsung S9. Tbf, I followed the 2 year old tutorial, maybe I missed some update?
