contrast issues when scanning

when using scan to pdf and enabling increased contrast and black and white option, the pages come out unreadable, with a lot of pure black artifacting which I can assume is an issue with shadow processing

Yes, there is room for improvements. I am also amongst those, who try to tinify pdf to black and white. ccitt g4 tiff would be really optimal here I think, I also think those can be embedded into pdfs.

If lighting is not optimal, and here's no dither, there is a threshold in black and white. And like the cropping and the contrast option, there should be a user defined theshold or the program could even analyse und auto set a threshold...
