Hello Goodbird,
I am a Chinese Minecraft player who has been maintaining a private local branch of Player2NPC, together with a local PlayerEngine branch, for personal use and testing.
I started this work because many Chinese users have difficulty reliably accessing or using the current Player2 service and its online flow. My goal is to provide a self-hosted OpenAI-compatible mode, so users can configure their own API provider, API key, and model instead of depending on one specific Player2 service path.
During local maintenance and testing, I have added or improved:
- self-hosted OpenAI-compatible LLM configuration
- local character, prompt, and model management
- persistent conversation summaries and key memories
- Chinese localization and UI improvements
- a context-preset editor for arranging system prompts, memories, and runtime context
- fixes for several runtime, configuration, and UI issues encountered during testing
I would like to publish an unofficial public maintenance fork so more players, especially users in regions where the existing online flow is difficult to access, can build and use these improvements.
However, I noticed that the Player2NPC repository currently does not include a LICENSE file. Before publishing any source code or compiled JAR releases, I would like to ask for your permission.
Would you be willing to either:
- add an open-source license to Player2NPC, or
- give explicit permission for me to publish and maintain a public fork, including modified source code and compiled JAR releases?
If you agree, I will:
- preserve all original attribution and copyright notices
- clearly identify the project as an unofficial fork
- link to the original repository
- document the differences from the original project
- not use the Player2 name or branding in a misleading way
- respect any conditions you would like to set
I also noticed a later public repository at shakey2/Player2NPC, but since the original repository has no license, I am contacting you directly to confirm the permission and licensing status before making anything public.
Thank you for creating Player2NPC and PlayerEngine.
Best regards,
JK-LIL
