This is certainly the case if you need to support Android and Apple devices. Not everyone has a Apple phone or tablet so making this a visual studio solution with Xamarin might be the best way to go for this.
If there is any work being done on this, I would welcome the info. I am in the middle of trying to spec a project that has to support both Android and IOS and it can be very difficult since I am not a Java programmer.
