Failed to duplicate the user token #507

Description

@doknik7-sudo

Hello.

I’m trying to set up Duo for a separate local Windows user session, but the instance fails to start and pairing never becomes available.

System information:

OS: Windows 11 Pro, version 25H2
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Ti
CPU: Intel Core i7-14700KF
Duo versions tested: 1.5.7 and 1.5.5
Local user used for the instance: Lounge
The user has a password and was temporarily added to the Administrators group
Remote Desktop is enabled
The user is added to Remote Desktop users
“Enable Process Patching” is enabled
“Test User Credentials” returns success

What happens:

I create a new Duo instance for the local user Lounge.
I click Start.
I click Start Instance.
The instance starts for about a minute.
“Pair New Client” and “Open Sunshine” stay disabled/greyed out.
Then the instance falls back to Start Instance again.

Event Viewer shows the following error:

Failed to duplicate the user token for lounge

I also tried:

Restarting the Duo service
Rebooting the PC
Recreating the instance
Creating a new local user with a Latin username
Enabling Remote Desktop
Adding the user to the Administrators group
Testing both Duo 1.5.7 and 1.5.5
Stopping the regular Sunshine service to avoid conflicts

The issue remains the same.

Could you please help me understand what causes the “Failed to duplicate the user token” error and how to fix it?

I can provide logs, screenshots, or any additional diagnostic information if needed.

Thank you.
