Thanks George - your implementation did raise for me the fact that I did not specify what should be the interpretation of lines that do have values for all fields - should that be an error (like your implementation) or should the missing fields be assumed to be null?

Out of curiosity, what were you looking for?

I looked at your Gist -- other than #4 (about easily generating via MSExcel) I generally agree. My CSVJSON format was intentionally simple - every line is a JSON array without the opening and closing brackets and without embedded newlines. That's it.

That trivial formulation spawns all of the benefits listed on that page including:

1. you nicely showed how easy it is to parse CSVJSON if you have a JSON parser available. This is a generic property of CSVJSON
2. there is no need for special pre-arrangements on delimiters, encoding, etc. all comes from JSON
3. this format is great for database table export - including databases with objects and special types
4. because the format is so precise and fixed, it can be parsed much faster than a generic CSV

I did not have time to start adding support for this format for the common CSV parsers and producers but that is the main impediment to get it accepted (along with support from major database vendors for use as export format).
