Season 10 Nether Render`

Normally it wouldn't make much sense to do a nether render since most of the interesting parts would be below the bedrock roof, but since the season 10 nether hub is on the roof, there should be a nether render. I scratched my head over the mapcrafter code for a while. I thought I would bring this to your attention since you're probably in a better position to render this than I am. I'll take a crack at it, but no promises.

Yeah, I usually don’t render the nether because it doesn’t look great in renders. I tried once or twice back around Season 6 or 7 (I started the project in S6), but it was always a trade-off between rendering below the top bedrock vs just the roof part.

I didn’t follow season 10 as closely, so I’m not sure what was built on the roof, but I can try a render and see how it looks like.

Following your suggestion, this is how the nether would like in the "3D" view. From what I remember and also what can be seen, it basically just renders the top bedrock on chunks that have blocks placed (and where are mushrooms 😅).

It actually looks cool 😄

Yeah! That looks rad! I hate to impose again but since the nether hub is a bdubs build would you be willing to render it with lightning? The overworld night map lightning was a little too dark, I don't know which switches you can flick but if you can turn the lightning spread up so less of the map isn't dark, it might look even better.

Yeah, sadly there aren't many "knobs and switches" to play around in mapcrafter.
In this case, it is mostly up to these render mode options:

In the first screenshot, I was using cave, which is the only option for rendering the nether...

EDIT: there is also lighting_intensity, which by default is already set to 1, so, nothing to change here as well...

You should definitely try lowering the intensity. I think it's referring to how strong the lighting pass gets mixed with the diffuse pass. Right now it's only rendering the lighting pass, so if you set intensity to like .8, it might add back some of the colors that are completely in shadows. Like a ambient lighting pass.

just tested it, changing the value of lighting_intensity, doesn't affect the final render while in cave mode.
the source code confirms that (cave mode + isometric aka 3d view) doesn't use the value:

there actually another render mode, called cavelight (that is not even documented in the public available docs, only 4 are documented), that then actually has a referece to the value that is passed in lighting_intensity but still doesn't change the final render in any way (I've tried with 0.8 as suggested, 0.5 and even 0.1, all of them look exactly the same)
