gis autocomplete with zsh

autocomplete does not seem to work with zsh. For example gis f tab tab results in:

gis f_gis_completion:2: commands: attempt to set associative array to scalar 
_gis_completion:2: commands: attempt to set associative array to scalar
_gis_completion:2: commands: attempt to set associative array to scalar
