The macOS saga has ended

Although I've spent about 2 months trying to put together a "real macOS app" version of ELS have hit a brick wall 🧱

Purchased an older Macbook Pro 13" Retina Late 2013 on 7 November 2023 ... not knowing Apple ways at all. Spent several weeks making tweaks to ELS, building a DMG installer and a macOS updater. While testing the whole thing kept running into problems due to not having paid Apple for a Developer ID - was about to sign-up.

But - discovered today that on 1 November 2023 Apple obsoleted the tools compatible with this computer and are required to sign and notarize DMG files. That procedure is required for Apple's Gatekeeper to allow an app to be installed and run. This computer cannot be upgraded to the required Monterey operating system that supports the new tools. Forced hardware obsolescence.

To build a macOS version of ELS requires a new computer and to pay Apple annually for the privilege. I am not in a position to spend any more money or time trying to do Apple's dance.

So there will be no macOS or iOS version of ELS with formal installers.

That said there is a tar for macOS and, with some fiddling, it can run on some macOS versions. Not being a Mac guy I cannot really say which.
