Hi @CameronFoxly, I’m a big fan of this project and honestly surprised there isn’t something like this more widely used already.

I’m trying to use it for some ASCII art I have in mind for a portfolio project, but I’ve run into a couple of issues getting it running locally. I opened two issues yesterday with details:

This refactor is introducing hiding and soloing frames and layers, so this update should cover that feature but I hadn't considered a workspace area for specific playback. That's a great idea and will add it to the plan. Being able to loop small parts of animations is a key part of aniamating frame by frame. Thanks for the idea!

It's even giving me an idea of setting up more of a tagging system for looped playback like Asesprite. They make it really great for creating sprite sets for character game animation. This could even be the foundation of creating exports for react and/or CLI applications that include statemachine-style controls for more interactive animation, rather than just baked single animations... Might have to be a later step for scope sake with the current timeline refactor, but I really like that idea!

Also, thanks for bringing up Aseprite. I wasn’t familiar with it before, but after checking it out, I can definitely see why you brought it up. Now this is where I’ll be spending some of my down time. 😄

I'm still chasing bugs and integrating the new multilayer and keyframe capabilities with the existing effects/generators/export systems, so it's not ready to ship, but here's a little preview of how the new animation system is shaping up. It's actually going to end up feeling a bit more like Flash when all is said in done. Check it out:

Nice, this is awesome. Loving the timeline, it's definitely giving me Flash nostalgia.

From a user perspective, this looks like a much better experience for handling animation timing compared to the current implementation, where you select milliseconds from a dropdown.

And, I'm seeing layers incorporated too, making it possible to animate multiple items on the canvas. This is dope. I'm excited for the next major release!

V.2.0.0 just shipped! I still now need to update the onboarding videos and documentation, as well as put together a tutorial series, but the new timeline system is now stable enough for people to start playing with. Take it for a spin, and let me know what you think!

Here's a quick unpolished video of me keyframing some animation and adding a second layer, with much more educational content on the way.
