Review of Wallpapers

In Groups of 2-3, share your wallpaper patterns and describe the process of creating them

What do you feel are the most successful elements of your design? The less successful elements?

Which scales/ resolutions do you feel your wallpaper is most effective for? Why?

What did you find most challenging when designing your wallpaper with computational repetition? What new opportunities did computational repetition offer in your process?

What notable similarities/ differences did you find between the patterns created by different members of your group?

Follow with a joint group review.

Parameterization Part 1

In the parametric design process, rather than design a singular artifact, form, or composition, the designer is making decisions about a system of design possibilities encompassing multiple potential outcomes. Rather than think about an object, a designer must think about a field of options. Parametric design therefore also necessitates thinking about high level criteria for design outcomes, and then translating these criteria to lower-level computational constraints and degrees of freedom (i.e. the parameters of the design). Furthermore, because a parametric design encompasses multiple possible outcomes, designers must also consider strategies and methods to search through, explore and refine these outcomes.
<!--

Functional and Physical Constraints

Design parameters can, in part, be defined through functional and physical constraints. When designing a chair, the chair must be able to hold a specific amount of weight. When designing for physical fabrication, the constraints of the fabrication machinery must be factored into the design. When designing computer graphics, the screen resolution, computer memory, and processing power limit to some degree what can and cannot be generated by the designer.
