"Unidentified game version" - savegames not recognized

I have been trying to use the savegame editor (played DOS a long time ago and wanted to try it again but did some dubious skill decisions, plus Wolgraff & Bairdotr are not the most optimal companions) but it always shows this error:

I have copied the savegame folder over to a VM with windows as I am playing on macOS, could this be the reason? The game version is 2.0.119.443 (current on macOS).

I now installed Steam & DOS:EE on the VM just to try the savegames and the editor recognised the savegames but then fails to load lslibnative.dll. Reinstalling .NET did not help either. Well, will try playing on with the current characters.
